Since our earliest days, CrossPoint Federal Credit Union has found success by finding the right products for our members and not by finding members for our products. We invest in our members, not stockholders, so we’re able to offer loans with lower rates and more flexible terms than big box banks.
It all started in 1936 when Mr. Wayne Flagg created the Wepawaug Teachers Federal Credit Union to help teachers in the Ansonia area assume control of their financial lives. At this time, the country was still trying to recover from the stock market crash of 1929. Salaries were low and jobs were scarce. Economic times were hard.
Although it was the Depression, positive signs were emerging as technology began to awaken with the invention of television and the first computers.
In his first term as President, Franklin Delano Roosevelt made use of public funds by setting into motion a series of fiscal and social reform measures designed to revive the hurting economy. With the passage of the Federal Credit Union Act in 1934, financial stability was finally made a possibility to the working class on a personal level.
In June 2010, Wepawaug-Flagg Federal Credit Union (WFFCU) merged with Hamden Federal Credit Union, which provided the credit union with additional members as well as two new branches. In 2015, WFFCU merged with United Shoreline Federal Credit Union, adding thousands of new members and a branch in Branford. In 2018, WFFCU changed its name to CrossPoint Federal Credit Union to better represent the credit union it has become. Today, CrossPoint serves more than 12,000 members, and had assets in excess of $115 million.
